Album art: David Archuleta - The other side of down

David Archuleta - The other side of down | Album art
I guess somebody thought The other side of down sounded better than just Up. But I guess Shania Twain already did that shit 8 years ago. The album name is crap and so is the album cover (which may not be final according to his official website). So let's hope David fixes up for the actual music, and that he comes better than that "Something 'bout love" crap which sounds like an unreleased track from a Kelly Clarkson album.

Archuleta's debut album wasn't bad. "My hands" and "Barriers" were really good songs. And David has a really good voice. But all of the songs sounded the same. They all had that typical Stargate sound. Strummy guitars, hand claps, finger snaps and a piano here or there. Hopefully this album will show a little more diversity with the sound.

David also needs to dirty up that image for album number three. Because preppy nice guy won't sell records forever. He's going to need to show some skin up in a GQ and Rolling stones shoot, have pictures of his bush end up on Twitpic, and have stories about how he f**ked some bitches in some grimey ass hotel in L.A leak to US weekly.

Comments

  1. He does have a really good voice but he's just boring. There were a few decent songs on his debut though. Don't expect this guy to be dirtying it up anytime soon. First of all, he's mormon (which actually might cause him to go crazy once he gets older), and it won't be easy for him to shed that "nice and innocent" image. That's how he got his fans in the first place.

But it's not like it hasn't been done before, and it'll probably happen.

  2. you are full of it. that album cover is getting raves all over the place, and only an overly cynical eye, or a blind one would think otherwise. your thoughts regarding his image, and what your filthy, juvenile stupid mind thinks must be done to improve it is laughable, and shows ur ignorance.

he is a genuine artist, and singer. he doesn't need that shit like autotune, manufactured scandal and hypersexualized images to effing sell. he's proven that, there are people out here who have brains, and aren't fooled by all the smoke and mirrors and fakery in pop music. that shit is short lived, because at the end of the day, there is no talent there. this dude has it, in spades, and will outlast all the bullshit that passes as music.

ur entitled to ur opinion, but i'm telling you now - archuleta is going to be huge. huge. there is a shift on the horizon to bringing not sexy back, but real talent and singers back, and he will lead the change. u can get aboard now, or be left the eff out in the cold. wait, w/ur stank no talent hating attitude, keep your tail on the fringe. he's going to make it without losers like you trying to be slick and throw shade against something ur little mind can't see or comprehend - real talent staring you in the face. later hater.

  3. Lmao - what is your problem dude - Archuleta is hot, much hotter than that guy who beat him in 08 on Idol, and much better singer, more popular. This guy don't need to change 1 thing about himself, or his image. Shit 4 brainz, have you even heard his new joint... that song is slammin'. U are too stupid to be reasoned with, your hate and stupidity is too much at this late hour.

So because the album cover is getting raves and everybody else likes it, that's a pass for me to like to just like it too!? I don't like the album cover. Plain and simple.

"There are people out here who have brains, and aren't fooled by all the smoke and mirrors and fakery in pop music. that shit is short lived, because at the end of the day, there is no talent there"

Tell that to the 100 million people who have bought Britney's albums over the past ten years and had her sell out her last tour.

It isn't talent that always sells buddy. You need to have that special something...that spark that's easy to latch onto and really catches people's attention, and I'm wondering if David has it. His preppy image and nice music is not going to sell forever because it doesn't stand out. Yes, he has a good voice and he's a good looking guy, but it's not enough. David is on that same path as Elliott Yamin and Taylor Hicks, and those guys struggle to sell records now. You need that extra something that makes the masses take notice and have your shit sell on a global scale; and to me, David just doesn't have that.

"U are too stupid to be reasoned with"

Yeah, well so are you. But I'll reason with you anyway, and manage to do it without name calling. Because that's what growned ups do.

Me stating "So let's hope David fixes up for the actual music, and that he comes better than that "Something 'bout love" crap which sounds like an unreleased track from a Kelly Clarkson album" would indicate that I have heard his new song. Shows how much attention you pay.

And David WILL need to make changes to his image (can't speak for the music yet as I've not heard the new album) if he wants to stay relevant. Because the nice boy image along with the sweet little songs won't keep him selling numbers that keep Jive happy as he gets older.

You're both quick to call me bad names, but did you even read my post properly and then check what you typed as comments!? I did not say I didn't like David Archuleta once!

You were so fixated on what I said I did not like, that you glossed over me saying that I thought his voice was "really good" and that a couple of the songs off of his debut were really good too.

His image change was an exaggerated tongue in cheek joke. If you'd read my blog over time, you'd know it's how I roll. But there's some truth in what I was getting at. The nice boy image will get boring eventually if the music stays the same. Just as females in the industry feel pressure in their careers to switch on the sexy and change their image, guys do too. And Jive are going to find that the nice preppy image is going to be difficult to keep selling as he gets older. This is the reality. And there are a fair amount of male artists (a handful from American idol) struggling in the game that prove this.

  7. David's not going to dirty up his image for fame or fortune. He has said fame and fortune aren't really important to him other than how he can do good with them. Re music, since he does depend on a record company there is some inevitable bending to their desire for radio hits. But David has said SBL isn't really musically representative of his album. The album should be interesting - David had a bigger hand in writing this time.
